After visiting Egypt in 2008, New Zealand rose to the top of my list of places I wanted to visit. I first became attracted to New Zealand after seeing a movie called The Frighteners by an unknown director, Peter Jackson.

Then Jackson launched The Lord of the Rings juggernaut, and my desire to visit the country intensified significantly. I returned to school in 2009, earning my bachelor's degree in social work in 2011, and then my master's degree in 2012. I had decided at the outset of my return to academia that I would reward myself upon successful completion of my education with a trip to New Zealand, a trip that began on New Year's Day, 2013.

I kept a travel journal which I posted on Facebook, and I also took advantage of the photo and video packages offered by the various companies providing adventure activities. I have organized here my travel journal, along with a second section of links to photos and videos of the adventures with related commentary. I will have a third section with the photo galleries completed and added soon.
